About the Senator

This week has been very exciting for all South Carolinians. We showed the world the competiveness of our state. We proved the work ethic of our state’s citizens. And we once again told corporate America that WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

After days and days of personal involvement and negotiations with Boeing officials, on Wednesday of this week, I had the very distinct honor of announcing to the Senate, state and nation that Boeing, the world renowned airplane manufacturer, selected South Carolina as its new home for the 787 Dreamliner production facility. Boeing’s decision to locate in this great state is without a doubt one of the largest economic development projects in the state’s history.

With Boeing’s incredible decision comes much needed improvement and prosperity for all of South Carolina. At minimum, Boeing will hire some 3,800 employees, while investing more than $750 million.

This wonderful announcement will create a tremendous amount of opportunity and benefits for individuals in every region of this state. This is indeed a transformational moment for the entire Palmetto state.
